The WHS Special Olympics team presented two awards to Athletic

Girls basketball won tonight against Antioch 61-45.  They are

8-0 (4-0 in conference).

Ashley Franklin, a senior on the WHS Girls Varsity Bowling team

had a 624 series with a high game of 258. The Girls Varsity

Bowling team is currently undefeated with a 3-0 record.

Noah Van Alstyne, a 5th grade student at Cotton Creek School

spearheaded and facilitated a Trick-or-Treat for Unicef project for the

last four years. Over that time, the project has raised approximately

$1,000 for Unicef. The program was started by his brother David.

Transfiguration had a Family Reading Night on Monday, Nov. 3rd. 

The families participating in the Family Reading Night did literacy

activites together such as listening to read-alouds by teachers,

playing charades with book titles, and making bookmarks and

campaign posters.

recyclables. If you would like to donate in this easy special way

Waukegan East High School in the Wixom Auditorium,

Wauconda Girl Scout Troop #1585 did "reverse" trick or treating at the Wauconda HealthCare & Rehabilitation Centre yesterday. The girls wore costumes and gave treats (pictures the girls had made and socks) to the

patients at the Centre

Lead by seven seniors, the Lady Bulldogs won the North Suburban

Conference Prairie Division title.  They went undefeated 6-0 in division

play.  At the Libertyville/Vernon Hills Crosstown Classic tournament,

they finished fourth out of sixteen teams.

 

 

Wauconda girls took runner up positions in the Lake County

Community Pageant on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 (Miss Wauconda

Tina Starkey  2nd runner up, Junior Miss Sarah Ulrich 3rd runner up,

Little Miss Meg Basco 2ndrunner up)

 

Wauconda High School freshman, Allison Morrison, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the First Amendment Student Essay Contest

sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League, Greenber Traurig and the

Chicago Tribune. The theme of Ms. Morrison's essay was "Describe

how you use one or more of the five freedoms in the First Amendment

in your everyday life." Over 1,000 essays were received and Allison's

was one of the few chosen by a distinguished panel of judges for this

award.

3 girls from Sheryl Ringel's Girl Scout Troop 824 this past Wed.

11-19-08 reported to the Wauconda Township on how their coat

drive went. The troop collected over 150 coats and warm

accessories  from their coat drive .  Coats were passed out

and distributed though out Wauconda Township. Spring jackets

were packed away and to be passed out to the needy at the

Business Expo in Feb.(Girls Are: Megan Casebolt, Olivia King and Megan Ringel)

Wauconda Varsity Volleyball Team worked together to finish second

against Stevenson in the conference championship (Listen to the match

Girl Scout troops #1586 and #452 donated Thanksgiving baskets

to the Wauconda Township for distribution to families in the area.

Glenn Swanson, Wauconda Township Supervisor, and Mike

Wahl, a member of the Wauconda Rotary club organize

Thanksgiving day meals for area families. The Rotary club is

providing food for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Thanksgiving day

for area families.

Sunday Nov.9th the Northern Illinois Scholarship Program was held at

the civic Building in Round Lake.  2 of our own local girls took the two

highest titles available. Jordan King a Jr. at Wauconda High School was

crowned Miss Supreme Star Queen and Megan Ringel  a student at

Wauconda Middle School was crowned Junior Supreme Star Queen. 

Megan also received the Judges highest score for her interview.  Both

girls also walked away with  numerous 1st and 2nd place honors in

categories such essays, posters, and talent. NISP is a program

devoted to community service while teaching  values to young women.

 

Lauren Mead, a senior at Wauconda High School signed a

letter of intent to attend Lewis University on a four year full ride

scholarship for basketball.  Mead, of Wauconda, has played on

the girls’ varsity basketball team all four years of high-school,

earning all conference honors each year.

The WHS Varsity AND Sophomore Girls Basketball teams won

The Island Lake Parade Between Darrel and and River Road had great turn out. The weather agreed and many had  great ttime at the annual event.

This is the Mead family team: J.A.C.K(Relay For Life).(Jack's Army of Cancer Kickers). They earned Gold team status. The annual event rallies around the memory of Jack Mead and his fight against cancer. The event

Island Lake Carnival May 14-17 brought many folks out for Cotton candy and attractions

WHS “Distinguished Scholars”  students who have held a 4.0 or better GPA for 3 and

a half years of their high school career..

The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) recognized the District

#118 School Board with an award of Merit for "Excellence in educational environment design," as reflected in the improvements made to the

Wauconda High School (WHS).

Four Area Wauconda Particapents went to the Dekalb "Convocation

Center to compete in the IESA State Wrestling Match. Conner Haran

WHS Winter Sports Awards, Scott Carlson State Champion (152Lbs) Accepting One of the Teams most valuable honors

This WHS Dance Team had two routines at the State competition Level, Many honors were handed out at the Winter Sports Awards.

At the last Village Board Meeting Connie Mascillino(Village Trustee) commented on the Walgreens utilization of these particular LED signs.Walgreens connects  them to the Illinois Amber Alert system.

Messiah Lutheran Church Had a few unique visiters today at the Wauconda Expo

Scott Carlson (Shown Here With His Proud Parents Keith & Linda) Has

just taken 1st at the Illinois AA State Wrestling Tournament in the 152 Lbs division.

Brandon McQuaid, a senior at Wauconda High School was selected

through an audition process of hundreds of Lake and Cook county

students to attend the District 7 Illinois Music Educators Association

Conference Music Festival last November.  Brandon was ranked

second chair in the district Orchestra and qualified to perform at the

All-State Music Festival in January.  After another audition in Peoria,

Brandon was ranked 3rd in the state for orchestral trombone performance

and was selected to play with the Honors All-State Orchestra in Peoria,

IL on January 30, 2009.   This was a repeat trip for Brandon as he also qualified last year as a junior.

Speed and Snow led to Snowmobile Racing action last weekend out at the

Golf Farm on Route 12 North Of Town.

Wauconda School Board (District#118) recognizes Nina Grudt one of

whom is a member of the "38 Illinois State Scholars" from this years senior class

The Poms are doing a fundraiser on January 30th.  The Varsity Team, the

JV Team, the Middle School and Matthews School Poms and the new

Man Poms of WHS. (Yes, a team of 20 or more guys) This will be an

hour show of the many great dances that we do during the year. 

The show will be called "Dancing with the Teams".The time is

7:00pm, it will be held in the competition gym.  The cost is only $5.00.

The girls cheerleading took 1st place in the Medium Varsity division of the Cheerleading contest at Elk Grove High School last Saturday

Matt Stonis, Gibson Gaite, Chris Woolridge, Bradon Prate and Brian Wisniewski set up on defense against North Chicago.

WHS Poms perform at a recent basketball game. "They qualified for state

in the lyrical division at their first competition. It's hard to qualify for state,

let alone in the first competition.  That just shows how good they are."

According to their coach Monica Jablonski.

Wauconda Middle School and Matthews Middle School 8th grade

Hayden Manahan builds a better mouse trap at the Robert Crown Invention Convention. The 5th grade students showed off their creativity and skill by inventing products to make life easier and, in some cases, tastier!

Robert Crown Students raised over $3,000 in loose change during their 

One for Books Change Wars Drive.  That change will be used 

to purchase more books and equipment for our library.

The WHS Madgrial Choir sings at the American Legion for the annual

Veterans Christmas Party.

Wauconda High School National Honor Society currently has 58 members,

47 of whom are seniors.(Fast Facts As of November 2008, there are 295

seniors at WHS 60% are on the 1st Quarter Honor Roll 47 are in the

National Honor Society 25 students have a GPA (Grade Point Average)

of 4.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) 12 students  scored over 30 on the ACT

test in April (the state average is 20.5).

 

Tammy Ellis drives toward the basket in a come-from-behind win over

Vernon Hills. Wauconda defeated the Cougars 52-48. Kate Martino

lead the Bulldogs with 15 points, Ellis had 11, Lauren Mead scored 8,

Julie LePage scored 6 and Aimee Prudhomme, Melanie Prudhomme and

Roslyn Summerville rounded out the scoring with 4 points each.

The Lady Bulldogs Varsity Basketball team is off to a 5-0 record.

 

Mike Brown(On Top) attempting to battle his way back to Third Place in

the 119 lbs division of the Barrington Thanksgiving Torunament.

Wauconda Township Supervisor Glenn Swanson is pleased to announce

the new Wauconda Township Team, representing years  of dedicated

service to the community.

Wauconda High School track team athletes Garrett Dorsey, Sean Lictherman, Santiago Lopez and Michael Malisheski received a special graduation ceremony June 4 2009.  The graduates missed the main ceremony because of  a state track competition.

Wauconda High School class of 2009 commencement was held on Saturday May 30th 2009. WHS graduated one of the most academically successful classes to date. Seven Distinguished Senior Honor students, 32 Illinois State Scholars, 55 PSAE Achievement Award Winners, 62 High Honor Roll Awards, 53 Presidents

Hats Off to the Class Of 2009. Hats and Tassels filled the air as the WHS Graduates of 2009  were presented to the auditorium capacity audience attending Saturdays Commencement Ceremonies.

The Annual Island Lake Chamber Carnival Near perfect weather, food and family nothing else needed. (Sunday May 17th)

Mathews Middle School in IslandLake (School District #118) will

be held their first 24 Hour Run to raise money for the American

Heart Association. Approximately 125 students divided into teams

and are currently running 1 mile every 1½ hours for a total of 15

miles. They began at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 15th and end at 9 a.m.

on Saturday. The students will be sleeping in tents (well actually they

do not sleep much) and there will be a campfire, food and lots

We wish to announce the engagement of our daughter Alison Joy Dorsey,  daughter of Neal Dorsey and Deborah (Gray) Dorsey (from Wauconda), to Sean Ryan  Woitas, son of Dave Woitas and Kathi (Chapleau) Woitas(from Island Lake).  They have a  wedding planned for September 4th, 2009 at the Evangelical Free Church of Wauconda.

WHS Sports awards were presented to the bowling team. The team in its second year had a great year with a great showing in regional and sectional play

The Wauconda VFW held it's Annual Craft show just down the hall from the Wauconda Chamber EXPO. Visitors had the opportunity to find all kinds of cool crafts and things.

The Wauconda Area Queens collected 226 pajamas and 229 books.

The Varsity cheerleaders took 3rd in the North Suburban Conference

Championship's Prarie Division. They also placed 1st at both the

Grayslake North Invitational and the Jacobs Invitational. Wauconda

Cheerleaders took a Fourth at The State Tournament.

Cotton Creek Spelling Bee finalists and runner-up (on the left) Sage

The Cotton Creek Spelling Bee lasted 41 rounds and set a school

record for length.

Detective Heather Caroselli, a WHS grad, began working as the

District's School Resource Officer this month.

The Wauconda Area Queens, Miss Tina Starkey, Junior Miss

Sarah Ulrich and Little Miss Meg Basco have chosen the

"Pajama Program" as their next service project. We will be

accepting donations starting January 12 through January 31,

2009. If you have any questions or would like to participate

The WHS Varsity Girls Basketball team placed 2nd of 16 teams in the

Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. The girls are currently 12-1 overall

and undefeated in conference play

Mr. Cameron Willis, principal at Wauconda Middle School attempts

to steal the free throw trophy from this year's champion Mr. Tony

Harter, assistant principal at Matthews Middle School. Caught in the

"middle" are PTO Presidents Mrs. Laura Sharkey and Mrs. Eileen

Geary.

Wauconda Grade School adopts Wauconda families instead of doing

their "Secret Snowman" staff gift exchange.

Mia Materic, Kavita Grewal, Anna Lowe and Stephanie Chiricuta,

38 whom made the list from Wauconda District #118. As

previosly reported Wauconda District #118' graduating class of

2009 is rating some of Illinois  best students.
