Wauconda Pack 290

Cub Scout Pack 290 celebrated the results of their annual popcorn fund
raiser. In addition to prize incentives provided by the Boy Scouts of
America, the Pack added incentives of their own, including throwing pies
at the leaders.

There were over 20 pies in all thrown.
If the Scout raised $800 or more, he got to “pie” Cub master Tim Benson.
If the Scout raised $1300 or more, he got to “pie” the Cub master and
the Assistant Cub master Pat McHugh. Anyone raising more than $2000 got
to “pie” both Cub masters and their individual Den Leader. Sandy Fox
was the lucky recipient for Den 6.

The Annual Popcorn Sales Program covers all expenses for the year for
each Cub Scout including dues, camp outs , books and patches. During
the past year, these Cub Scouts participated in a pine wood car derby,
helped their charter the Moose serve a Spaghetti dinner, marched in
the Memorial Day Parade, visited an observatory, had a fishing derby,
went to day camp, had a Rain gutter Regatta, a bike rodeo, a Rocket
Launch, Cub Mobile, 2 family camp outs, community cleanups, went to
the Corn Maze and sang carols at a nursing home.

Pack 290, which has been around since 1951, was also one of many
organizations in the Wauconda/Island Lake area to adopt a family or
families for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
