The Wauconda Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the 2008 Holiday Walk on Main Street, scheduled for Saturday, December 6th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, during which time all residents are invited and encouraged to bring a non-breakable ornament to hang on the Chamber tree. All downtown Main Street businesses are asked to participate by decorating their store fronts with lights and participating in the popular trivia scavenger hunt. Each participating merchant will also conduct their own free raffle for adults 18 and over with a minimum value prize of $20. A full list of participating locations and their free raffle prize will be posted on the Chamber website www.waucondachamber.org , on the chamber office marquee, and on posters located throughout the village. The free scavenger hunt runs from 11:00am to 2:30 pm on and around Main Street. Pick up a entry form and goodie bag at the Citizens Activity Center (CAC) at 100 N. Main Street. Children answer a trivia question at each location to receive a sticker for their scavenger hunt form and a small prize for their goodie bag. Forms must be returned by 2:30pm and prize drawings will be held at 2:45 pm at the Chamber Christmas tree in front of the CAC. For each sticker collected, one raffle ticket will be awarded. Free horse drawn sleigh rides sponsored by Lakeside Inn will circle Main Street from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Santa will arrive at 11:30am on the sleigh and sit in the Village gazebo for free pictures sponsored by National City until 2:30pm. You are welcome to bring your own camera for pictures, or Brenda Lung Photography will take one for you. A DJ will be spinning holiday tunes to our 2008 theme “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” at the CAC to keep the mood festive and will be the center of all additional activities with assistance from the three Wauconda NISP Queens who have volunteered their time to the event. The downstairs of the CAC will be transformed into a holiday bazaar featuring decorated egg ornaments and gifts by Wauconda’s own Geri Meyer of Eggsotics, and several other vendors. Upstairs, the Girl Scouts will host a free craft project for children to make ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree in front of the CAC. A large pine tree was donated by the Scott Lincoln family. Hot grilled items from the Chamber Market Grill, bake sales, strolling carolers, the Wauconda Middle School Mini Band and cheerleaders, and three of Santa’s elves will fill Main Street sidewalks with activity. Students from Waters Edge Waldorf School will set up in the Serenity Health Resources Parking lot for singing and recorder ensemble performances. They will also offer candle dipping as a craft and sell hot cider and cookies. Curves will also have craft vendors, and next door, Honey Hill Coffee Company will be roasting chestnuts. There will be numerous warming stations by businesses along Main Street who will offer hot drinks and treats, including the Wauconda Village Hall and Wauconda Fire Department who will hold open houses. The Wauconda Wellness Group will offer free chair massages, spiced tea and hot chocolate. A Craft Bazaar at the Federated Church located at the intersection of Main and Liberty Streets runs from 10 am to 3 pm with a luncheon from 11:30 to 1:30. Holiday Walk will be the distribution date and location for the latest “In The Bag” chamber give-away promotion. Bags containing discounts and free promotional items will be handed out to the first 125 families starting at 11:00 am. Be sure to come early to pick up your bag that can also be used for shopping at Holiday Walk. Main Street businesses who are participating in the activities to date include: Academy of Ballet, Carlson WagonLit Travel, Curves, The Frame Shop, Honey Hill Coffee, Lakeside Inn, Lindy’s Restaurant & Marina, Pets & Things, P.S. Flowers, Ryan & Company, The Victorian Lady, Tri-county Thrift Store, Wauconda Fire Department, Wauconda Paint & Glass, Wauconda Wellness Group, and the Village of Wauconda.
