Wauconda High School advanced six wrestlers to the IHSA Sectional tournament at Antioch High School on Feb. 11-12, 2011.

All six wrestlers qualified by placing in the top three wrestlers of their weight classes.  Advancing to the Sectional tournament

Were Devin Tortorice (Soph,103 lbs), Bruce Pearl (Soph, 140 lbs), Tim Alvarado (Senior, 145 lbs), Peter Kootstra (Senior, 160 lbs),

Nate Magiera (Freshman, 171 lbs), and Brian Kent (Senior, 215 lbs).

Devin Tortorice pinned Bobby Raines from Grayslake Central High School in 3:53 in the semi-final match to qualify for State.  He then lost a 4-2 decision to

Cameron Kennedy from Richmond Burton High School in the finals.  Bruce Pearl qualified for State by avenging a loss last week in the regionals to David Pierce of Vernon Hills High School.  Bruce scored a 12-4 major decision against Pierce in the semi-final match. Bruce was pinned by Kyle Gibson of Lakes High School in the finals, to finish 2nd.

Senior Tim Alvarado was pinned by Alex Barrera from Gordon Tech in the semi-finals.  He then needed to wrestle back to be able to qualify for state.

He beat Donato DiGuilio from Ridgewood High School 6-4 to get into the third place match. In the third place match and a chance to qualify for state, he had to face Dan Klema from Vernon Hills.  They had wrestled before and Klema had beaten Alvarado 5-4 in overtime.  Klema took control of these match early with a first period takedown.  He rode Alvarado for most of the match. Tim was able to escape with 10 seconds to go, but he couldn’t get any other points.  Tim had been a three-time IHSA Sectional Qualifier, and had been ranked in the top ten wrestlers at 145 lbs.   He fell just short of winning his key match.  He finished the season with a 34 wins and 14 losses and 4th Place in Sectionals.

Peter Kootstra pinned Pat Stanczak from Elmwood Park High School in 3:31 of his semi-final match to qualify for state.  He then lost 5-3 on a last second call by the referee in the final to Connor Graves from Richmond Burton High School.  He had beaten Graves last week at regionals 5-0.

Freshman Nate Magiera lost his semi-final match to Zach Freundt of Antioch High School 3-2.  He also had to wrestle-back in order to qualify for state,

In his first wrestle-back, he pinned Dontrell Phillips from Chicago Phillips in 1:27 in order to go for third place.  He needed to beat Steve Alfaro from Fenton High School.  Nate wrestled well and pinned Steve Alfaro in 2:25 to get third place and qualify for state as a freshman.

Senior Brian Kent pinned Yusuf Mohammad from Chicago Senn in :54 seconds in his semi-final match to qualify for State.  His opponent in the finals was Kevin Hein from Grayslake Central High School.  Kevin had qualified for State last year at 189 lbs.  Hein went up 5-0 on Kent with a throw to Brian’s back.  Brian

Got off his back and methodically got back in the match.  He used several turns and posted 6 back points to take the lead back.  The final score was Brian Kent 13 and Kevin Hein 9.

Wauconda has 5 wrestlers advancing to the IHSA State tournament for the first time in school history. Only tough luck loser, Tim Alvarado will not be going to Champaign.  The others have a good shot at winning some matches and placing at the IHSA Class 2A State tournament.

Nice sharing. Where else could I get that type of info written in such an ideal manner? I have a mission that I am simply now operating on, and I've been at the look out for such info.
