Island Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Members Participate in the Island Lake 4h of July Parade
Local businesses put their best foot forward as part of the annual Island Lake 4th of July parade sponsored by the Village of Island Lake. The parade stepped off from the corner of Darrell & Burnett Roads at 10 a.m. and ended at River Road. The Island Lake Area Chamber of Commerce participated in the parade with a two-vehicle Chamber entry. President Andrea Fawkes rode in a red, white and blue, flag and stars festooned convertible driven by Vice President Linda Thomsen. This was followed by Director Merri Numerous chamber members displayed their patriotic fervor. Music filled the air courtesy of MC Nutrition of Lakemoor. Island Lake’s Camping World RV Sales showed off two entries that beckoned onlookers to a vacation on wheels. Sharp Auto Body featured two of its fleet, one of which was filled with volunteers from the Guru Nanak Sikh Mission of America. Baba-Ji was on hand and watched as candy rained in abundance and men jumped off the truck to hand deliver cold pop and water to the crowd. Children from Lots of Tots waved at the huge crowd gathered at their school. With plenty of horsepower beneath them, the 2nd Gear group, from Timmermann’s Ranch and Saddle Shop, sported checkered racing jackets. Providing the flourish to mark the end of the parade that only Timmermann’s could provide, patriotically dressed riders carried flags honoring both America and Illinois, astride equally well groomed mounts that shone and sparkled as the sun hit the glitter sprinkled on their coats. Chamber members displayed "Support Your Community – Shop Local" signs with the new Chamber logo. Why Shop Local? · Local businesses participate in local events and are more likely to contribute to local fundraising. · Local businesses provide a majority of local jobs. · Local businesses are owned by and employ your friends and neighbors. · The sales taxes you pay supports your community. Monies collected keep you safe by manning and equipping your fire and police departments, fix your roads, maintain your parks, subsidize your community events and more… · Local business owners invest in their community and help build a better future for its citizens. · This is your hometown.
Richards’ (of the Martin Insurance Agency) big red truck, which honked out a greeting as candy-wielding volunteers eagerly tossed candy to children and adults alike.
The Island Lake Area Chamber of Commerce wishes to thank Connie Mascillino, Trustee for the Village of Island Lake who organized the parade and made sure that it went off without a hitch.
