Are Your Building Numbers Visible?
In the event of an emergency the Police or Fire department needs to locate your home, house numbers are a must. You may have them on the mailbox thinking that’s all you need, they need by ordinance to be attached to your residence above the front door or close by. You can get the requirements on the village website under Title 8 chapter 7, 8-7-3 Please don’t rake or place leaves in the street, they get washed into the storm drains and clog up the storm sewer lines. If you are having work done on your home, such as roofing, siding, driveway replacement, where a contractor is involved make sure they are registered with the Village. We require them to have the proper amount of insurance, a bond to cover any damage to public property, and the correct license for the job to be done. We do this to not only protect you the homeowner but also the village itself. They must register with the village before a permit will be issued for the work to be done. It’s that time of the year when the fireplace is going to be put to use make sure the following checklist is done before you get into the heating season.
- All chimneys must extend 2ft higher than the closest ridge of the home, to ensure proper drafting
- If your chimney is next to a vent for an additional appliance such as a gas water heater or a furnace, the chimney must extend 2ft past the opening to eliminate down drafting into the appliances and into the home
- Burn only DRY, SEASONED WOOD. Burning of wet or freshly cut wood will only promote creosote to build up faster and could cause a fire.
- If you have any doubts on the condition of your fireplace consult a qualified Chimney technician to evaluate your fireplace and ensure a safe heating season.
